From prestigious museums and universities, to blockbuster films, amusement park rides, video games, and toys--dinosaurs have always fascinated us. But, why?

WHY DINOSAURS? follows dino-obsessed youth James Pinto and his filmmaker father (Tony Pinto) on a journey around the world, interviewing world renowned

paleontologists about the latest dinosaur research, and encountering dinosaur fanatics of all walks of life.

Together they track down the filmmakers behind Jurassic Park and Jurassic World, see the world’s largest dinosaur toy collection, dig up some real dinosaur bones, and attempt to discover why everybody loves dinosaurs!

TRAILER / OPENING

THE PROTAGONIST

James_TrexTeeth.jpg

Like most kids, James Pinto was obsessed with dinosaurs from an early age. He spent countless hours playing with dinosaur toys, watching movies and documentaries, and collecting fossils. But his passion for paleontology never stopped.

By the time he was 15, he had found fossils in Wyoming, North and South Dakota, and California, won first place in the California Science Fair, and started volunteering as one of the youngest docents and fossils preparators at the La Brea Tar Pits.

The film spans three and a half years of
his teenage life in a coming-of-age story that concludes with James heading off to the prestigious UC Berkeley to become a paleontologist. He is currently a Sophomore and interning at the UC Museum of Paleontology.

THE FILMMAKER

Tony Pinto (James’ father) has produced over 3,400 professional videos, and was uniquely qualified to produce, direct, film, and edit a documentary about his son’s fascination with dinosaurs, fossils, and paleontology.

Tony graduated with High Honors from UC Santa Barbara (Film Studies) before starting a career in Internet Marketing. He has leveraged his knowledge of social media to help shape the film’s visuals, raise money, and generate buzz.

THE DINO FANATICS

We've interviewed a wide array of dinosaur enthusiasts, from seasoned paleontologists and amateur fossil hunters to paleo artists and dinosaur fanatics from all walks of life. Here's a partial list of the almost 70 people featured in the film, including 18 PhD's. (See the full list.)

THE TARGET AUDIENCE

WHY DINOSAURS? already has a combined social media reach of over 10 million people, including 100,000 followers of the film’s social media pages alone.
